This is the picnic where you do almost nothing and it works anyway. Second Beach sits on the southwest shoulder of Stanley Park, with the grassy Ceperley field rolling right down to the sand and English Bay sitting directly in front of you, meaning the sun sets in front of your sandwich whether you planned it that way or not. There is basically one lone picnic table, so bring your own setup and claim the lawn. As the light goes gold, migrate onto the sand and watch the freighters light up in the channel like a slow-motion parade you did not ask for but absolutely deserve. A concession and washrooms are a few steps away, and the seawall runs straight to Third Beach if you want to walk off dinner. Free, gorgeous, and makes you look like you planned harder than you did.
