Can I book a table at the ones that have not opened yet?
No, and we do not pretend otherwise. Anything marked as opening soon has no plan button, because building an evening around a room that does not exist yet is how you end up eating a hot dog in a parkade. Those entries carry the expected timeframe so you can put it in your calendar and be first through the door.
How do you pick which new openings make the list?
Same bar as the rest of the site. A new restaurant has no meaningful review count yet, so it cannot lean on a rating the way an established spot does, and we score it on the things you can actually judge up front: who is cooking, what the room is like, whether the concept is genuinely different, and whether it works as an evening rather than just a meal. Chains and refits of existing rooms usually do not make it.
Are these good for a date, or just good restaurants?
Both, filtered for the first. A tasting counter with four seats and a two-hour wait is a great restaurant and a terrible first date, so the ones that make this page have to work for two people who want to talk.
