It's free and entirely daytime, the low-stakes outing you'll somehow still be talking about months later.
Bring a cheap kite (or grab one beforehand, there's no rental here) and head for the big open lawn on the water side, away from the trees, where the English Bay breeze is steadiest. When your arms get tired, walk the seawall path toward Kits Beach for the clean skyline-and-Stanley-Park view, it's one of the best free vantages in the city for a photo. It's completely free and it neighbours the Museum of Vancouver and the Maritime Museum, so it slots neatly before or after either. Heads-up: it's exposed, so skip it on a rainy or dead-still day.
