More infoKits Beach has been Vancouver's default date for decades and still delivers: a wide west-facing stretch of sand, the downtown skyline across the water, and eight free volleyball nets for burning off first-date nerves before you even sit down. Win or lose a game, then claim a driftwood log as English Bay goes full peach and rose. It costs nothing and asks nothing.
Aim to arrive 45 minutes before sunset so you can grab one of the big driftwood logs along the western half of the beach, that's the prime, slightly quieter stretch with the cleanest view across English Bay to downtown and the mountains. If you've got energy to burn first, the eight free volleyball nets toward the north end run casual pickup games most warm evenings. Bring a blanket and a couple of drinks (it's a free beach, so this is a zero-dollar date), and remember it faces due west, this is one of the only city beaches where you watch the sun actually set over the water. Parking is tight at golden hour; bike or bus and walk in.
