The date
FIVE sits on Marine Drive directly across from the White Rock pier, so the water is doing half the work before anything reaches the table. Book it, the patio tables facing the pier go first and this stretch of Marine Drive fills fast in summer. Open 11:30 to 10 daily. Start with a tray of oysters, then the paella or the beer-battered cod, with the lobster ravioli as the splurge. Waterfront parking is pay by space, $3.25 an hour from April to September and $1.50 the rest of the year, and the Waterfront Parkade is the fallback. The promenade and the pier are directly across the road, so build the walk in.
