More infoAngelina's Dutch Corner sits inside River Market on the New Westminster quay, under a glass roof with the Fraser sliding past outside and working tugs pulling log booms up the channel. It has been family-run since 2002, and Eric Missouri, who bought it in 2013 and calls himself honorary Dutch, has kept every bit of the original character. The pannekoek is the point: a Dutch pancake the size of the plate, loaded with potatoes, bratwurst and eggs. Thirteen benedicts back it up. Doors open at 7am, seven days.
Doors open at 7am every day of the week, which is unusually early for this region and the reason to come here rather than anywhere else on the quay. Weekend waits run twenty minutes to an hour after 9, so either get in early or put your name down and walk the boardwalk while you wait. Ask for a window seat or the patio; the room sits under a glass roof right on the Fraser and the working tugs and log booms going past are half the reason it is worth the trip. Order the Big Pannekoek, a Dutch pancake buried under roasted potatoes, ham, bacon, bratwurst and eggs, or work through the thirteen benedicts on offer. Parking is the one catch: the free 30-minute stalls have to be registered at the machine, and everything else is paid parkade under RiverSky at 1000 Quayside, so budget for it or take SkyTrain to New Westminster and walk down in eight minutes. Afterwards, River Market is right there and the pier park is a two-minute stroll.
