Call ahead and ask explicitly for a table on the covered back patio or a window with a Semiahmoo Bay view, the front and inland tables are fine but you came for the water, so insist on it. Open with the martinis (they're a thing here) and let the server steer you to whatever's freshest off the Pacific-Northwest menu. Aim your reservation for about an hour before sunset on a live-music night so the set is warming up while the bay goes orange and pink. Don't miss the West Beach setting itself: this end of Marine Drive is quieter and prettier than the busy pier end, so build in a slow walk along the promenade afterward. Parking near West Beach is the tightest in town in summer, so come early, use the pay lots, and treat the walk in as part of the date rather than a problem to solve.
