Fraser Views from the Port Haney Wharf

A restored 1935 wharf building over the Fraser with a river lookout, the Golden Ears behind you and freight trains going past your shoulder.

Port Haney

More info

The date

Port Haney is where Maple Ridge started, and the wharf is the piece worth standing on. The false fronted 1935 building was restored and moved back out onto the wharf in 1992, and there is now a lookout platform over the riverbank: brown water moving fast, log booms, the occasional tug, and the Golden Ears filling the whole northern sky at your back. The rail line runs right there, which is either an intrusion or the entire point depending on your mood. From here a paved heritage walk climbs past eleven historic sites to Haney House and the museum, with benches in the old orchard, if the view leaves you wanting more.
