Chase Cliff Falls at Kanaka Creek

Five minutes from the parking lot, Kanaka Creek has carved a sandstone canyon with a waterfall that locals swim under all summer.

Cliff Falls is one of those places that local knowledge treats as obvious and everyone else somehow never finds, which is an enormous compliment dressed as a complaint. Kanaka Creek has carved a sandstone canyon in Maple Ridge into a series of bowls and chutes, and a five-minute walk from the parking lot delivers you to a footbridge staring straight down the falls. It is free, it is gorgeous, and in summer the pools below double as a natural swimming hole where the locals have clearly worked out something the tourists haven't. The effort-to-payoff ratio is genuinely unfair in your favour. Show up, walk five minutes, stand on a bridge above a waterfall in a sandstone canyon, and try to act like this was a normal thing to find on a Tuesday.
