Almost everything possible is made in the building, breads, pastas, sauces and the butchery included, with produce from growers a few minutes down the road, and the kitchen has the confidence to put a Kahuna French Toast and a vegetarian hash on the same page and mean both. The room is small and rustic, which is exactly why the line builds fast and why they hold tables to a seating limit. Book it. Uptown White Rock is then a five-minute roll down the hill to the pier.
Book ahead, genuinely: the room is small, the line builds within minutes of opening, and a table for two is held to a sixty-minute seating. Order the Kahuna French Toast for the sweet side and the vegetarian hash for the sleeper hit, both out of a kitchen that mills through its own bread and sauces. The lot behind the building is paid, so bring a card. Reckon on an hour and a quarter, then take the steep, pretty walk down Johnston Road to the White Rock pier and promenade.
