The Jericho Beach Kayak Centre runs one of the largest rental fleets in the country, and on a calm evening this is the best seat you'll have all year: on a double kayak or a paddleboard, floating in English Bay with the downtown towers stacking themselves prettily in front of you, the North Shore mountains behind them, and a reasonable chance of a seal surfacing to see what all the splashing is about. No experience required. They run two-hour, three-hour and full-day rentals, plus guided sunset and full-moon tours if you want someone else to handle the navigation. The water is flat enough to have an actual conversation, which is either the appeal or the challenge, depending on where you are in the relationship. The bus drops you nearby. Go at sunset.
