An 8 km Cypress climb past historic log cabins and First Lake to a summit above the Lions and Howe Sound.
Hollyburn Peak is the date that earns you a story and a view, and the story includes century-old log ski cabins you walk past on the way up. From the Cypress cross-country base you climb through forest past the historic Hollyburn Lodge, through a scatter of those ancient cabins, brush by First Lake, then push up a rooty and rocky final stretch to a bald summit where Mount Strachan, the Lions, Howe Sound, and the city all spread out below you at once. It's roughly 8 km round trip with about 400 metres of climbing, so budget around 3 hours. Pack water, proper shoes, and summit snacks. Park and summer parking are free. Snow lingers well into spring, so treat this as a summer-to-fall plan unless you're geared for winter.
