Lose Yourselves in Pacific Spirit Park

Seventy-five kilometres of free rainforest next to UBC where cell signal fades, time dissolves and a short walk quietly doubles in length.

Pacific Spirit Regional Park is 75 kilometres of free trail under a canopy of fir, hemlock and cedar, sitting on Vancouver's western edge and making a compelling case against driving an hour to find trees. Pick a trailhead near UBC and take the soft, shaded paths down toward the bluffs, or bring bikes and work through the 50-odd kilometres of multi-use routes the way locals do. The Salish and Admiralty area trails are popular for very good reason. It is free and genuinely quiet on a weekday, and here is the nice surprise: light drizzle makes it better, the dense tree cover turning what could be a gloomy afternoon into something properly atmospheric. Know before you go: cell signal gets thin in the trees, which is either inconvenient or the whole point, depending on your relationship with your phone.
