Paddle Alouette Lake at Golden Ears

The glacier-fed lake so clear you'll forget there's a Costco 40 minutes away, paddle included.

Alouette Lake has the audacity to be this beautiful this close to a Costco. Glacier-fed, mountain-walled, and so clear you can watch the bottom vanish under your paddle as you drift away from South Beach in your rented canoe or kayak. There is no agenda, no playlist decision, no awkward dinner silence: just the sound of paddles, the odd argumentative loon, and an entire mountain wall that has decided to show off. The most cinematic cheap date in Maple Ridge is also the most disarmingly effective one. Do not bring your phone to the middle of the lake unless you want to discover whether it floats. Point yourselves at the far shore, take your time getting there, and let the fact that a date this good costs this little sink in.
