A 20-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay, a 9 km rainforest loop around Killarney Lake, and let the boat do the heavy lifting.
Adding a boat to anything instantly makes it a proper adventure. From Horseshoe Bay it's a 20-minute ferry to Snug Cove, and within five minutes of stepping off the ramp you're inside Crippen Regional Park's temperate rainforest, which looks exactly like the forest in every moody Pacific Northwest film, except you're actually in it. The Killarney Lake loop is about 9 km of easy, joyful trail: fern-lined paths, long wooden boardwalks skirting the lake, and that specific dappled green light that makes everyone look photogenic without trying. When you loop back, Snug Cove's cafes and marina are right there waiting. Pack a picnic, plan your day around the sailing schedule, and let the ferry do half the romantic heavy lifting before you've even laced your boots.
