More infoBowen Lookout is the cheat code of alpine dates, and there's no shame in using it. From the Cypress Bowl lot you wander past marshy Yew Lake and a subalpine meadow, then tip uphill a gentle 150 metres to a wooden platform perched over Howe Sound, with Bowen and Gambier Islands spread below. The whole thing is 4 km round trip, doable in running shoes.
Start from the main Cypress Bowl day-use lot at the very top of Cypress Bowl Road, near the downhill ski area and the BC Parks kiosk. Follow signs onto the Yew Lake Trail, then watch for the Bowen Lookout junction off the Howe Sound Crest Trail; it's roughly 4 km round trip with a gentle ~150 m of gain, so most couples are out and back inside 1.5 hours. The payoff is a wooden viewing platform staring straight down Howe Sound at Bowen and Gambier Islands; don't miss the framed island-and-water shot from the railing, and time it later in the day if you want golden light. Short on time or energy? Just do the flat Yew Lake loop instead and skip the final climb; you still get meadow and mountain backdrop. The trail is snow-buried in winter, so this is a July-to-October plan unless you've got snowshoes.
