More infoCarmelo's does one service a day and does it properly: doors at five, white linen, a wood-fired oven at the back, and the kind of Italian menu that has not needed reinventing in years. It is small and it takes the reservation seriously: a table is held ninety minutes on a small booking and two hours on a larger one, with a fifteen-minute grace period spelled out on their own site. Diners have pushed it to number two of the hundred-odd restaurants in West Vancouver, which for a room this quiet on Marine Drive is telling. Ambleside Beach is four blocks down the hill.
Reserve, and turn up on time: they hold the table for fifteen minutes and then it is gone. Order like the room wants you to, an antipasto, a pasta each and something out of the wood oven, and leave space for the tiramisu, which is what most of the photographs on their own site are of. Budget about an hour and forty minutes. Street parking on Marine Drive and the residential blocks behind it is free and usually findable, and Ambleside Beach is a four-block walk downhill afterwards.
