Fifty-five acres of themed gardens unspool around little lakes and stone bridges toward a Korean pavilion. Work through the maze, find your date, pretend you weren't lost, then take a terrace table with a coffee and watch the herons patrol with zero chill. It's paid, which is why it stays uncrowded and gorgeous.
Pay in and give yourselves a couple of unhurried hours; 55 acres of themed gardens, lakes and stone bridges reward dawdling. Don't rush the Elizabethan hedge maze, it's built for two people to lose each other and laugh. Wind through the rhododendrons, then split a coffee on the terrace and watch the herons.
