Fifty-five acres of themed gardens with a hedge maze designed, architecturally and on purpose, for getting pleasantly lost together.
VanDusen has a feature no ordinary park can offer. An Elizabethan hedge maze that exists, formally and architecturally, for two people to lose each other in. Fifty-five acres of themed gardens unspool around little lakes and stone bridges, from the Mediterranean beds through the rhododendrons all the way to a Korean pavilion that will make you wish you'd planned the whole day here. Work your way through the maze, find your date, pretend you weren't absolutely lost. Then take a table on the terrace with a coffee and watch the herons patrol the water with zero chill. It's a paid garden, which is why it stays uncrowded and beautifully maintained. Go in spring for the blossoms or fall for the colour, give yourself a couple of unhurried hours, and don't rush the maze.
