The free 3.5 km Capilano Canyon loop with a salmon hatchery, a thundering spillway, and the Lions framed at the end.
Capilano Suspension Bridge is right there, charging admission and drawing busloads of people while its free neighbour quietly hosts the better date. Capilano River Regional Park has 26 km of trails, but the move is the roughly 3.5 km, 1.5-hour loop that drops you into a mossy canyon, crosses the river, leads past the salmon hatchery (the fish ladders are genuinely fascinating and don't let anyone tell you otherwise), and deposits you on the deck of the Cleveland Dam just as the spillway thunders below and the twin peaks of the Lions line up perfectly behind it. Parking by the dam is free but fills fast on summer weekends, so bring a thermos and arrive early. It's the kind of outing that makes you feel smug and outdoorsy for about the price of a thermos of coffee.
