This burly ridge loop above Buntzen Lake crosses the floating bridge, grinds up switchbacks through old forest, and pops out on bluffs staring down Indian Arm. Roughly 15 km for hikers who mean it. In 2026, mid-May to early September, a free BC Hydro parking reservation booked the day before is required.
Start at the Buntzen Lake main lot off Sunnyside Rd in Anmore and head for the floating bridge at South Beach, the Diez Vistas trail kicks uphill from near there, crossing the powerline and pipeline before the switchbacks begin. The full loop runs about 15 km with roughly 650 m of climbing and takes a fit pair 5 to 5.5 hours; you'll string together bluff after bluff with the standout being the high lookout straight over Indian Arm, sit, split a snack, let the silence do the talking. Bring more water than you think you need. Short on time or legs? Don't grind the whole loop: go up-and-back to the first big Indian Arm viewpoint (about 4-5 hours return) for the money shot, then bail back to the lake. Crucial for 2026: between mid-May and early September you MUST book a free BC Hydro parking reservation the day before (released 7 a.m.), the gate opens at 8 a.m., and the lot fills fast, no reservation, no parking, no hike.
