3.8 km from Deep Cove village through cedar rainforest to a granite outcrop hanging over Indian Arm, with doughnuts after.
Quarry Rock is the gateway drug of North Shore hikes: everything you need for a great outdoor date compressed into 1.5 to 2 hours and 3.8 km, with a village full of doughnuts waiting at the bottom as your reward. The trail leaves right from Deep Cove, winds through fern-and-cedar rainforest over little wooden bridges (romantic enough without trying), and pops you onto a bald granite outcrop above Indian Arm and the Cove below, which is genuinely the kind of view that makes people grab each other's arms. It's busy on weekends so go earlyish, you need only decent shoes, and it is completely free. Then stroll back down, split a doughnut in the village, and congratulate yourselves on having the kind of productive outdoor morning that absolutely justifies a second pastry.
