Twenty-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay, a 10-km loop on Bowen Island, and a 719-metre summit with Howe Sound below.
Make this the whole day and don't apologize for it. The ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove takes 20 minutes and already feels like the date is going somewhere. From Snug Cove it's about 3 km to the Mount Gardner trailhead, then a proper 10-km loop with 570 m of climbing up to the island's 719 m high point, where Howe Sound's islands, the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver arrange themselves below you like they've been waiting. This one earns the post-hike pints in Snug Cove before you sail back into the evening, and both the earning and the rewarding are very much part of the plan. Check the ferry schedule, leave yourself margin, wear real footwear, carry water, and treat the boat ride back as the romantic intermission it already is.
