A quiet 4.5 km Langley forest loop locals hope you won't find, five minutes from Fort Langley's coffee and ice cream.
Derby Reach is the kind of park that locals mention in a slightly lowered voice. The Houston Trail loops about 4.5 km through tall second-growth forest, big-leaf maples and the occasional genuinely impressive old cedar, with almost no climbing and significantly less company than the trails everyone photographs. It connects down to the Fraser River, where the Edgewater Bar stretch gives you wide-open water, driftwood and herons doing their serious-employment thing in the shallows. From there it's a five-minute drive to Fort Langley's coffee and ice cream, which turns a good walk into a complete afternoon. Free, gentle enough that you'll still have things to say by the end, and pretty in every season. Spring and fall are the sweet spots, but summer is lush if you arrive early before the gravel lots fill on sunny weekends.
