Tentacle Tribe, the Montreal company built on street dance, brings DIRT to The Cultch's Historic Theatre for five days. Five dancers mix hip-hop, breaking, popping, martial arts and contemporary movement, and then add what The Cultch calls unexpected puppetry; La Presse called it truly new and exciting. It runs 60 minutes with no intermission. An hour of dance leaves the whole evening open for dinner and talk. Eat at Bombay Kitchen + Bar on Commercial Drive, four minutes from the theatre, then walk up to La Mezcaleria for a mezcal after. Wednesday is opening night and Thursday has a talkback. Evenings at 7:30pm, plus 2pm matinees Saturday and Sunday. Seats run $35 (C) to $64 (A+).
Book on The Cultch's DIRT page, $35 to $64 by section. For a 7:30pm show, eat at Bombay Kitchen + Bar on Commercial Drive at 6pm and walk four minutes to the Historic Theatre on Venables. The show ends around 8:30pm, leaving time for a mezcal at La Mezcaleria, about seven minutes up Commercial Drive.
