Big-band swing played by a full symphony orchestra, in the prettiest room in the city. Trumpeter Jens Lindemann joins the Vancouver Symphony at the Orpheum for Swing the Night Away, Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, at 7:30pm. The program leans on Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole. It runs about two hours with one intermission, and seats on the VSO's ticket page ran from $50 to $110 in the orchestra and $63 to $135 in the front balcony. Dress up a little; the Orpheum rewards it. Hawksworth on West Georgia is the special-occasion dinner a few blocks away, and Uva on Seymour is the easier choice. After the encore, the Piano Lounge at Bacchus keeps the mood going.
Book through the VSO (orchestra from $50, front balcony up to $135). Dinner at Hawksworth or a lighter bite at Uva on Seymour, both a few minutes' walk away, then be seated by 7:25pm. The concert runs about two hours with an intermission; finish with a nightcap at the Piano Lounge at Bacchus.
