Dig the Crates at Zulu Records

Vancouver's 1981 indie record shop, where the bins reveal more about a person than any dating app ever will.

Zulu has been running the show on W 4th since 1981, which is longer than most couples manage, and the shop knows it. It's a tight, well-loved room packed with new and used vinyl, CDs, and gear, and a staff that will genuinely change your week with one casual recommendation from behind the counter. The date mechanics here are excellent. Flipping through bins side by side is low-pressure, it is revealing (whatever they pull tells you more than a dating profile ever would), and it is collaborative in a way that dinner with small talk frankly isn't. When you land on something you both know, that is your moment. Grab show tickets at the counter on the way out and you have, without really trying, booked your second date while you were still on the first one.
