Jägerhof was already 33 years into its run when the previous owners retired, and the North Vancouver locals who took it over in 2014 had the sense to leave the decor alone: wood panelling, green linen, hunting prints, a 125-year-old upright piano in the corner. The kitchen sticks to the regional specialities of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol rather than a novelty menu, so the schnitzel selection runs six deep and the spätzle is made in house. The owners added live music, which means Friday and Saturday often come with old guitar jazz or traditional accordion. It opens Thursday to Sunday only, from five, and it fills.
