More infoThe walkway starts at the foot of Head Street beside the West Bay marina and follows the harbour edge all the way to the Johnson Street Bridge: five kilometres if you go the distance, a very pleasant twenty minutes if you do not. It is paved, level and wheelchair friendly, hung with Douglas fir and arbutus, and the harbour supplies the entertainment. Float planes lift off, the Coho and the Clipper come in, otters work the rocks and swans drift past the houseboats. Benches sit roughly where you would want to stop anyway, and none of it costs anything.
Start at the foot of Head Street by the West Bay marina and follow the paved shoreline path east. Twenty minutes gets you past the houseboats and through the best of the harbour view; keep going and it runs about five kilometres to the Johnson Street Bridge. It is flat, paved and wheelchair friendly, there are benches the whole way, and it costs nothing. Park on Head Street or at the marina, and turn back whenever you feel like it.
