The date

Beacon Hill Park looks you in the eye and asks why you go anywhere else. Two hundred free acres tumble from a duck pond and stone bridges past free-roaming peacocks up to a hilltop lookout where the Olympic Mountains arrange themselves with obvious intent, then roll down to Dallas Road where the Salish Sea takes over. Five minutes from downtown, it costs nothing. Bring a blanket and stay longer.
