Broke & Bougie
A free 6.5-acre rhododendron garden on the UVic campus, where the most expensive thing is a couple of dollars for parking.
More infoTucked into a corner of the UVic campus, Finnerty Gardens holds one of Canada's best rhododendron collections, over 1,500, threaded by gravel paths that curve past ponds and benches built for sitting. Come in April or May and the place erupts in colour like a horticultural standing ovation; any other month it is a quiet, sweet-smelling loop you will have to yourselves. Entry is free. Parking is a couple dollars.
