A 4.5-km snowshoe through frosted forest to a bluff where the whole city glitters below like someone spilled it there.
Winter dates don't have to be another movie, and Dog Mountain on Mount Seymour makes a compelling case for getting off the couch. It's roughly 4.5 km round-trip with barely any climbing, weaving through frosted forest to a rocky bluff that drops away to the entire glittering sweep of Vancouver and Burnaby, with North Shore peaks piled up behind. It's free, dog-friendly on-leash, and well-travelled enough that you usually only need micro-spikes, though carrying snowshoes is smart after fresh snowfall. Rent gear at the Mount Seymour base if you don't own it. Bring a thermos, find the viewpoint, and stay long enough to watch the city light up at dusk, which is the actual whole point of all of this. Sometimes the right date is just the two of you and a flask on a mountain at golden hour.
