Modern Persian in Kitsilano with Michelin recognition, gloriously crunchy tahdig, and a shared-dips opener that relaxes even first dates.
Delara is what happens when Persian home cooking grows up and moves to a warm, intimate room on W 4th Avenue in Kitsilano. There is tart pomegranate and dried lime and what the menu would describe as saffron energy (big saffron energy, in practice), and the gloriously crunchy tahdig that arrives looking like it was plated specifically for your camera roll. The date mechanics here are good: the shared dips and flatbread opening is basically engineered to relax two people who are still deciding how much they like each other, and the service is genuinely sweet rather than performatively attentive. It is Michelin-listed and still feels homey rather than fussy, which is a trick very few rooms pull off. Reserve for dinner. If things go well, the weekend brunch is a natural sequel: lower-key, same excellent tahdig.
