More infoCantina Social Club opened in late July at 367 Seymour St from the team behind Chupito, taking the old school Mexican cantina, a drinking house first and a restaurant second, and pointing it at contemporary Mexican cooking built on Pacific Northwest ingredients. It began as a pop up, and the DNA shows: the room is built around the bar, the volume sits just under conversation stopping, and nobody is whispering.
Go early or go late. A new cocktail bar with Chupito's name on it still draws a crowd at 8pm, so aim for 5:30 or after 9:30. Take two seats at the bar, because this is a drinking house that learned to cook, not the reverse. Order cocktails first and food second, then let whatever the Pacific Northwest handed the kitchen that week decide the rest. Loud rooms are good for nerves.
