Foodie Experiences
A decades-long West Broadway fixture serving Kashmiri and Mughlai recipes nobody else in the city is cooking.
Akbar's Own has been on West Broadway for decades, which would be unremarkable if it weren't one of the only rooms in the city cooking Kashmiri and Mughlai food. This is northern India's courtly cuisine: slow-braised meats perfumed with cardamom and saffron, rogan josh the Kashmiri way, rich Mughlai kormas that have nothing to do with heat and everything to do with layered, regal spicing. The family has been passing these recipes down through generations, and it tastes like it. At a 4.4, it's a steady local favourite, and because almost nobody else in Vancouver does this style, it makes a brilliant 'let me show you something you've never had' date. Low-lit, warm, made for lingering. Order the Kashmiri and Mughlai specials, get the breads, and let the spicing do the impressing.
