Foodie Experiences
Davie Street's tiny Goan kitchen, steps from Sunset Beach, with a whole pan-fried pomfret and cocktails that won Vancouver Magazine over.
Sula's Davie Street room is small and warm and about two minutes from Sunset Beach, which is either a bonus or the whole plan depending on how the evening goes. The kitchen is coastal: a whole pomfret marinated in black pepper, fennel, red chili and kokum, dusted in semolina and pan-fried, and the fish is the kind that produces very firm opinions. An actual Goan reviewer called it 'just perfect,' and Goan reviewers do not hand that out freely. Add Mangalorean plates and an Indian cocktail program that earned Sula Best Indian Restaurant nods from both Vancouver Magazine and the Georgia Straight, and you have a room that is lively without being loud, intimate enough that you'll lean in over the menu. Book ahead. The room is tiny, the word is out, and the English Bay seawall is right there afterward if the evening calls for it.
