Pair it with a wander through the arts village for a conversation-rich afternoon that spends exactly zero dollars.
Check the days before you go - the museum opens Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm, and is closed Sunday, Monday and Friday, which trips up first-timers expecting a weekend pop-in. Admission is free (drop a few dollars in the donation box - it actually keeps the lights on). The exhibits rotate, so ask the volunteers what's new; they are unreasonably passionate about PoCo history and will hand you the best stories in the building if you let them. Don't miss wandering the rest of Leigh Square Community Arts Village around the museum - the plaza and arts spaces make a nice slow loop and give you something to react to together. It is a 60-to-90-minute date on its own, so pair it with coffee or lunch on the nearby Shaughnessy Street strip to round out the afternoon - and it's the perfect rainy-day rescue.
