More infoThe Pier Bistro is one small square room out on the Sidney pier, past the fish market, with water on three sides and the Gulf Islands and Mount Baker filling the windows. The cooking is coastal comfort done seriously: an award-winning seafood chowder, crab cakes, a seafood medley of salmon and halibut stacked on a crab cake that regulars have ordered for years. It seats about forty, so the window tables are the currency. Closed Sunday, and it shuts at 4pm on Monday.
Call ahead if you want a window, the room is small and the windows are the reason to come. The kitchen runs to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday, closes at 4pm on Monday and is shut Sunday. Order the seafood chowder, it has been winning things for years, then the seafood medley or the cajun halibut. Free street parking on Beacon Avenue and the town's free lots are two minutes back up the pier. Walk out to the end of the pier afterwards, and the seaside sculpture route through Beacon Park runs north from there.
