The Blue Fox opened in 1991 and has been packing a narrow Fort Street room ever since, one where every inch of wall is claimed by local art and the queue on the pavement outside doubles as a neighbourhood noticeboard. The kitchen's whole personality is eggs benedict, roughly a dozen builds of it, backed up by huevos rancheros and pancakes that arrive looking faintly unreasonable. It is loud, warm, entirely unfussy and about as Victoria as a room gets. Check the calendar first, because it closes on Wednesdays.
