Order one paper dosa, watch it arrive hanging off both ends of the plate like a savoury sail, and eat it with your hands. The closer is filter coffee poured from a great height into a tiny cup. Come hungry, skip the elegance.
Park in the lot off 120th and don't be put off by the strip-mall plainness, this is exactly where the best South Indian food hides. Split a Mysore masala dosa (spiced red chutney smeared inside the crepe) and the showpiece paper dosa that drapes off both ends of the plate, plus a plate of medu vada, crisp lentil doughnuts you dunk in sambar and coconut chutney. Everything is vegetarian and the spice is real, so flag your tolerance to the server rather than guessing. Don't miss the South Indian filter coffee to finish, it arrives in a steel tumbler-and-dabara set and you pour it back and forth to froth and cool it, which doubles as the most photogenic thing you'll do all week. Total damage is a fraction of a sit-down dinner, and the kitchen runs till 1am if you're starting late.
