Newton's 4.7-rated pure-veg temple: a dosa longer than the table, six little steel bowls, and zero pressure to be elegant about it.
Sri Periyava Dosa Bhavan is tucked into a Newton plaza and rated 4.7 by thousands of people who are, all of them, essentially here for the same thing. The dosa arrives shatteringly crisp and, depending on which one you order, impractically long. Alongside it comes a small parade of steel bowls: sambar, coconut chutney, that fiery red one nobody can name but everyone reaches for first. The room is small and unpretentious, no buffet theatrics, just a focused pure-vegetarian kitchen doing its thing with quiet confidence. It's cheap enough to be genuinely low-stakes, and delicious enough that you'll feel like you discovered something brilliant even though thousands of regulars got there first. Order a ghee-soaked masala dosa for two, let the chutneys happen, and don't try to be tidy. Tidiness is not what the dosa wants from you.
