Axum is a big, warm Ethiopian room on East Hastings with a fix for the awkward-dinner problem: on Fridays a live band plays traditional music, so the conversation always has somewhere to go. Dinner is one shared spread of injera piled with stews, lentils and tibs, eaten by hand because there is no cutlery, just the two of you leaning in. Book the combination platter.
