Day Trips & Getaways
Twenty minutes on the BC Ferry from Horseshoe Bay, and suddenly you've left the city entirely, which is the whole idea.
The Horseshoe Bay ferry to Bowen Island takes twenty scenic minutes, runs more than a dozen times a day, and requires absolutely no plan, which makes it the most efficient trick in the region for feeling like you've properly escaped. Step off at Snug Cove and suddenly: no chains, no reservations required, just boardwalk shops to wander, a cottage cafe selling pastries that taste better outdoors, a gentle loop through Crippen Park around Killarney Lake if you'd like a walk, and a guided kayak available right off the dock if you'd like something more ambitious. One important logistical note: leave the car in Horseshoe Bay (parking is reportedly brutal) and take the bus in instead. The ferry ride alone is genuinely half the date. Pack something to read on the return, when you won't want it to end.
