More infoThe Sunshine Coast is Vancouver's cheat code: it feels like you flew somewhere remote, but it's a 40-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay and you don't need a car. Roberts Creek is the heart of it, a bohemian community with a driftwood beach and a famous hand-painted mandala on the pier. A short hop away is Gibsons, the postcard harbour where The Beachcombers was filmed, all bobbing boats and patio fish-and-chips.
Drive (or walk on) to the Horseshoe Bay terminal and take the 40-minute BC Ferries sailing to Langdale, in summer reserve the outbound car deck online a few days ahead (the return from Langdale is free, so you only pay one way). From Langdale it's 10 minutes to Gibsons Landing: start with fish-and-chips on a harbour patio and a wander past Molly's Reach from The Beachcombers. Then drift 15 minutes up to Roberts Creek, walk the pier to see the famous community mandala repainted each year, build a driftwood fort on the beach, and grab a coffee and a cinnamon bun at the Gumboot Cafe. Don't miss Cliff Gilker Park's mossy rainforest loops, sunset at the Roberts Creek pier, and a pint at Persephone Brewing's farm. Tight on time? Just Gibsons Landing + the Roberts Creek pier is a perfect car-light day trip; with a night you can add Smugglers Cove and Soames Hill for the big harbour view.

BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay → Langdale (40 min). Pay outbound only; the Langdale→Horseshoe Bay return is free. In summer/long weekends reserve the car deck at bcferries.com a few days ahead or arrive 60+ min early. Gibsons is ~10 min from Langdale; Roberts Creek ~15 min more on Hwy 101.
