See Something Daring at the York Theatre

East Van's beloved restored 1913 hall where the shows are eclectic, the acoustics are great, and the Drive is right outside.

The Cultch has been East Van's champion of the bold and the weird for decades, and the York Theatre, a 1913 hall pulled back from demolition and lovingly restored, is the best room they've got. Shows range across theatre, dance, music, and the kind of performance that actively resists being categorised, which is either exactly your thing or a date that gives you both a lot to talk about afterward (both outcomes are good). The acoustics in this intimate room actually earn the word great, which matters more than people think. Best of all, it sits right on Commercial Drive, so rolling out into a wine bar or a late espresso is built into the evening. Book ahead. The good nights go fast, and grab your intermission drink early because the lobby is cosy.
