The Cultch has been East Van's champion of the bold and the weird for decades, and the York Theatre, a 1913 hall pulled back from demolition and lovingly restored, is the best room they've got. Shows range across theatre, dance, music, and the kind of performance that actively resists being categorised, which is either exactly your thing or a date that gives you both a lot to talk about afterward (both outcomes are good). The acoustics in this intimate room actually earn the word great, which matters more than people think.
