Rainy Day
A by-donation heritage museum with a world-class model railway, and a real 1880s home next door to wander through.
The Maple Ridge Museum and Haney House are the rainy-day answer for two people who are wet, indecisive, and only willing to agree on 'not far.' The museum walks you from First Nations prehistory through railway and logging history and, somewhere in the middle, springs a world-class model-railway diorama of old Port Haney that is genuinely impressive in a way you will not see coming. Next door on the Fraser River waterfront, Haney House is a preserved late-1800s family home you can actually walk through, room by room, which is the closest you'll get to time travel on a Tuesday. Admission to both is by donation: leave what you want, leave what you can. A low-key afternoon with something real to talk about on the drive home.
