Chinatown (E Pender St)

More info

The date

The Chinatown Storytelling Centre occupies a handsome old Bank of Montreal building on East Pender, which tells you plenty before you even walk in. Inside, the Chinese-Canadian story unfolds through personal voices, photographs, and an animated dining table stranger and more moving than it sounds. Give it an unhurried hour, then head straight into Chinatown for dumplings while the conversation is still going. Open Thursday to Monday.

How to do it

Settle into this handsome former Bank of Montreal and give the personal stories, photographs, and that animated dining table an unhurried hour, you'll leave knowing things about a neighbourhood you've wandered a hundred times. It's open daily from 10am to 5pm, so it fits almost any afternoon. Carry the quieter, thoughtful mood straight into Chinatown for dumplings or tea and keep the conversation rolling.
