Watch the Baking Show With Judge Bruno Feldeisen

By Date Spark team · Published

Baking shows are made for watching with someone, and on Sunday, November 29, you can watch one with the person doing the judging. Bruno Feldeisen, a judge on CBC's The Great Canadian Baking Show, hosts a viewing party and cookbook signing at The Skript Kitchen on West 3rd Avenue in Mount Pleasant. Doors open at 6:30pm, there is time to meet him and talk baking, and the episode screening is planned for 8pm.

What the two tickets get you

The Skript lists two tickets on its Eventbrite page. For $18 you get grazing boards, one beer or glass of wine, entry to the viewing party and the chance to meet Bruno, and you are welcome to bring your own copy of his cookbook for him to sign. For $46 you get all of that plus a physical copy of the cookbook, signed, to take home.

Extra drinks are sold on the night. The listing allows refunds up to seven days before the event, so if your plans are shaky, decide by November 22.

Who should go

This is an easy, low-pressure date for a couple who already critique the bakes from the couch. It is two hours, it costs less than most cocktail rounds, and the conversation starts itself, which makes it a good early date as well as a cosy one for a long-running pair. If neither of you watches the show, a grazing board will not carry the night. If you bake together, spend the extra on the $46 ticket: a signed cookbook you will cook from beats a photo you will never look at again.

Making a night of it

The party wraps at 8:30pm, so plan a second stop. Earnest Ice Cream on Quebec Street in Olympic Village is a short walk for a scoop and a ranking of the showstoppers. If the episode leaves you wanting something stronger than a glass of wine, Key Party on Main Street is a quick ride up the hill for a cocktail.
