Hyde Creek Recreation Centre is the answer to a question you didn't know you needed to ask: what if the date was a waterslide? It's a drop-in fee and a swimsuit, which means zero planning, zero commitment, and a remarkably low bar for having a great time. The leisure pool has a real waterslide to take turns daring each other down, a lazy river that is sneaky fun when you commit to it, a whirlpool for afterwards, and a sauna and steam to thaw out in when your fingers have gone wrinkly. Cheap, warm, goofy in exactly the right way. When the BC sky goes its usual shade of grey, there is something quietly wonderful about trading the outdoors for a chlorinated indoor version of it.
