Things to do in Surrey, BC
Surrey is its own Metro Vancouver city, with beach paths, a well-known staircase, a climbing gym and a heritage farm. Here's our advice: pick one anchor first, then build around it.

Plan your visit
Surrey is a city in its own right, so let's treat it like one. At 1001 Steps, the City of Surrey says there aren't really 1001, though there are a lot. The rebuilt zigzag drops 40 metres to a pathway beside a rail line, and an underpass about 200 metres along leads to the beach. Crescent Beach has a pathway open dawn until dusk and two roped swimming areas. Lifeguards work at Sullivan Point only in a set summer season. Blackie Spit Park, just north, has a fenced dog swim area that works only when the tide is in, so that part of the plan depends on the tide.
Our tip: pick the stop that's hardest to move, then add one easy neighbour. Coastal Climbing Centre in Newton says reservations aren't required, so a weekday after work is an easy option. Historic Stewart Farm lists a free farmhouse, open Tuesday to Sunday afternoons. Its October Count Quackula hunt sends you after eight costumed ducks, and the prize is a rubber duck (honestly, a better souvenir than most). Don't assume one walk or one transit line links everything, and check official pages for hours before you go.

Surrey questions
Good to know· 3 questions
What is a good anchor venue for a Surrey date?
Choose the least flexible stop first, such as a climbing session or a heritage visit. Then add a short walk nearby, and check the official page for hours.
Does 1001 Steps really have 1001 steps?
No. The City of Surrey says there aren't really 1001, though there are a lot. The rebuilt steps lead down 40 metres to a pathway, and the park is open dawn until dusk.
Is Crescent Beach good for swimming?
It has two roped swimming areas, and lifeguards work at Sullivan Point only in a set summer season. Check current conditions and the official page before planning a swim.
