Break a Sweat
Rent a SUP or kayak right off West Beach and float the warm, sheltered bay with the pier behind you.
Semiahmoo Bay has done the work for you: it's shallow, it's sheltered, and it's one of the warmer-water spots in Metro Vancouver, which means the odds of a relaxed, non-terrifying paddle are very good. In summer the City sets up stand-up paddleboard and kayak rental concessions right on the sand (two at West Beach, one over at East Beach), so you can park, rent, and be out on the water in minutes. Once you're past the swimmers, you get the postcard: the pier behind you, the whole curve of the bay ahead, and approximately zero whitewater to deal with. It is, against all probability, a genuinely romantic active date. The flatness of the water means nobody has to pretend they've done this before.
